Israeli Smart ID card - Update

The Israeli supreme court denied the hearing on this issue in an effort
to resolve the problems that delayed this project so far.
Just to remind everyone HP won the bid for this project and the two
other companys, EDS and Bari Print, launched a law suit.
The new hope comes thanks to the governments internal issues commitee
headed by Knesset member Dr. Yuri Stern which recomended to resolve
these issues so that the project will be avialable to the public eight
months from now instead of three years from now if a new bid is to be
issued.

The Smart Israeli ID card project was launched in Novmber 2001 and its
reasons and uses are:

* Reduce counterfits
* Allow citizens to perform on-line actions with digital signatures
* Used for elections
* Access all government agency's remotely and securely
* Much much more . . .

The card will be the size of a credit card and include numerous
security and safty features with many options for upgraded uses.

Let us hope that indeed in the begining of 2005 we will all start
replacing our ID cards. . .
